Bolton Wanderers manager Steven Schumacher has suggested that his side could face Leyton Orient again this season, indicating that Richie Wellens’ team are well on track to remain in the top six.
The O’s have been one of League One’s surprise packages, battling their way into a strong position in the play-off race. However, Wanderers moved level on points with them and Charlton Athletic after a crucial victory at the Toughsheet Stadium on Saturday.
Schumacher’s Bold Play-Off Prediction
With just 14 games left in the campaign, Schumacher is backing Leyton Orient to keep their form and remain a key contender as the season reaches its climax.
“It was a big game. I know we talked in the build-up about pressure and the expectation of the club and that this was a really important three points.
“It was a big game because we were up against a really good side, I think they’ve lost one game since November. The run that they’ve been on has been outstanding, the cup run that they’ve got on, the momentum that they’re building, they’ve been good.
“They have caused teams loads of problems on transition. I was pleased today that we didn’t get caught out too many times in those big spaces, so credit to our lads for snuffing that out. It was a tough game against a tough opponent, and I would be very surprised if we didn’t see them again.”
Schumacher’s confidence in Orient’s ability highlights how strong a unit they have become under Wellens, making them a formidable force in the play-off battle.

Wanderers’ Revival Under Schumacher
Since taking charge at Bolton, Schumacher has looked to implement a high-energy style of play, pushing his players to maintain intensity and attacking momentum.
Asked about what has changed since his arrival, Schumacher emphasised the importance of energy and confidence within the squad. The manager noted that players are thriving under the new approach, while fans have responded positively to the team’s recent performances.
Momentum will be key as Bolton navigate the final stretch of the season. With play-off positions still up for grabs, maintaining their recent form could make all the difference in securing a place in the top six.
Writer’s View
Schumacher’s words suggest that he sees Orient as a serious contender for promotion, and rightly so. Their form since November has been outstanding, and if they maintain consistency, they will be difficult to dislodge from the play-off spots. Meanwhile, Bolton’s resurgence under new leadership has given fans renewed hope. If both teams keep up their momentum, a thrilling end to the season awaits—with a potential rematch on the cards.
