Sunderland Set £25 Million Price Tag: Premier League Clubs Circle

Sunderland’s young star Chris Rigg is attracting significant interest from top Premier League clubs, with the Black Cats reportedly setting a transfer fee of £25 million.

Manchester United and Newcastle United are among the frontrunners, with Liverpool, Arsenal, and several European clubs also monitoring the situation.

Premier League Giants Keeping a Close Eye

At just 17 years old, Rigg has already made over 50 senior appearances, showcasing his potential as one of England’s brightest young talents. The teenager, who made his debut at just 15, has continued to impress in the Championship, sparking interest from multiple elite clubs.

Reports suggest Manchester United have sent scouts to watch Rigg in action, with the Red Devils keen to add him to Ruben Amorim’s squad next season. Newcastle United, who previously attempted to sign him, are also expected to renew their interest in the summer.

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris recently provided an update on Rigg’s fitness ahead of their crucial match against Leeds United. Despite being substituted in the second half against Luton Town, Le Bris confirmed that Rigg is expected to be available for selection.

“I think Riggy was just tired,” said the Sunderland boss. “He’s okay. It was also good news to have Jenson [Seelt] back in the squad after a long, long injury – he was ready.”

What Next for Rigg?

Sunderland have so far resisted offers for their prized midfielder, opting to keep him during the January transfer window. However, the summer could present a different scenario, particularly if the club fails to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Aside from Manchester United and Newcastle, clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester City, Brighton, Borussia Dortmund, and even Real Madrid have been linked with a move for the England youth international. With Sunderland reportedly willing to accept an offer of £25 million, a bidding war could soon unfold.

Manchester United’s new ownership structure under INEOS has placed an emphasis on recruiting young talents with future sell-on potential. The club has already pursued several young prospects, including Leny Yoro, Sekou Kone, and Chido Obi-Martin, as they look to build for the future.

Writer’s View

Chris Rigg’s development at Sunderland has been remarkable, and a Premier League move seems inevitable. If Sunderland fail to secure promotion, they may struggle to keep hold of their young star. The reported £25 million valuation is steep for a teenager, but given his talent and experience at such a young age, clubs may be willing to meet that figure. Expect a major transfer battle in the summer.
