Former Leeds United Boss Resigns From Current Club After 20 Days

Neil Redfearn has stepped down as Farsley Celtic manager after less than a month in charge, leaving the embattled National League North side in further turmoil.

The 59-year-old, a former Leeds United and Rotherham United boss, was appointed in January, tasked with steering the crisis-hit club to safety in the sixth tier of English football. However, his tenure has been cut short in what is yet another setback for the struggling Yorkshire outfit.

Redfearn took over from Pav Singh, who was swiftly reinstated as his assistant, but his sudden departure has left Farsley without a manager once again.

Redfearn Bids Farewell

Redfearn, who appeared in the Premier League as a player, confirmed his exit and expressed his gratitude to the club and its supporters.

“I wish all the Farsley supporters good luck going forward and thank the players for their best efforts.”

His resignation follows a crushing 6-1 defeat to Needham Market, further compounding the club’s on-field woes.

Farsley’s Off-Field Struggles

Redfearn’s abrupt exit is just the latest in a series of setbacks for Farsley Celtic, who have endured a tumultuous season both on and off the pitch.

The club has been unable to play at their home ground, The Citadel, throughout the campaign. A planned switch to an artificial surface has been delayed, forcing them to relocate home fixtures to the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium in Buxton.

Further turmoil emerged in October when members of the playing squad publicly accused chairman Paul Barthorpe of “breaking trust” over alleged late wage payments. Barthorpe admitted there had been delays but cited personal reasons, disputing the claims made by the players.

In response, a group of Farsley fans announced plans to boycott home games at their temporary Buxton venue.

With the Celts currently sitting 22nd in the National League North table and now without a manager, the club faces an uphill battle for survival. The uncertainty surrounding the squad, stadium issues, and off-field controversies paint a bleak picture for the remainder of the season.

Writer’s View

Redfearn’s departure is a damning indictment of the chaos at Farsley Celtic. The club’s ongoing issues—ranging from financial uncertainty to instability in the dugout—make survival in the National League North an increasingly difficult task. With no permanent home and dwindling fan support, Farsley must act quickly to stabilise the club before it spirals further into crisis. The next managerial appointment will be crucial in determining their fate.
