Cardiff City Sanction Player Exit

Cardiff City manager Omer Riza has confirmed that left-back Jamilu Collins is actively searching for a new club after falling out of favour at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Despite the close of the British transfer window, Cardiff are looking to offload the 30-year-old defender, who is out of contract in the summer and is expected to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Jamilu Collins To Depart

Collins, who joined Cardiff City in 2022, has made just three appearances in the Championship this season, a stark contrast to his initial excitement when he signed for the club. His time at Cardiff has been marred by injuries, which have significantly hindered his progress and led to him slipping down the pecking order within the team.

“At the moment, JC is searching for another club. We’ve had good, honest chats. The windows are not closed abroad, so things might still happen there. In the meantime, he’ll continue to act professionally and train in order to play games. I’m not sure what will happen with that,” said Riza.

Collins’ Career Path and Early Promise

Before moving to Cardiff, Collins enjoyed a solid career in Germany with Paderborn, where he made 136 appearances, including 30 Bundesliga matches. His performances at Paderborn earned him a move to Cardiff, where he initially spoke with enthusiasm about the club’s history and his desire to help them fight for promotion to the Premier League.

However, his time in Wales has not gone as expected, with injuries and competition for places limiting his impact. His earlier excitement about joining Cardiff has since been overshadowed by a lack of playing time, and with his contract nearing its end, Collins now seeks a fresh challenge.

What’s Next for Jamilu Collins?

With his contract set to expire, Collins is free to explore opportunities in markets where the transfer window remains open, including countries like Turkey and the USA. Moving on will likely benefit all parties involved, freeing up space and funds in Cardiff City’s squad as they look to make progress under Riza’s leadership.

While Collins’ future at Cardiff looks increasingly uncertain, the club’s priorities will shift to their FA Cup clash against Stoke City this weekend. Whether Collins remains in Wales for the remainder of the season or finds a new club, it seems clear his time at Cardiff is coming to an end.

Writer’s View

Jamilu Collins’ time at Cardiff City appears to have run its course, and a move to a new club could revitalise his career. His previous experience in Germany proves he still has plenty to offer, and with clubs in Turkey and the USA potentially interested, Collins could be a valuable addition to a new team.
