Sheffield Wednesday Closing in on Free Agent Agreement

Sheffield Wednesday are on the verge of completing a deal for Ryo Hatsuse, with talks being finalised for the free agent defender to join the club permanently.

According to The Star, the 27-year-old has impressed in recent training sessions, and the Owls are now poised to offer him a contract.

Ryo Hatsuse Signing

Hatsuse, who has been without a club after the expiration of his contract with Vissel Kobe, has been considering his options. However, it appears the opportunity to join Sheffield Wednesday is the one he has chosen. This move comes after the Owls made two signings in the January window, bringing in Stuart Armstrong and Ibrahim Cissoko.

Currently sitting in 10th place in the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday are just two points off the play-off spots with 16 matches remaining. In their most recent outing, they played to a 1-1 draw at home against Luton Town.

Hatsuse’s arrival will add competition and depth to the defensive options at Hillsborough. He will vie for a starting spot at left-back alongside Max Lowe and Marvin Johnson. The signing could prove beneficial as Sheffield Wednesday look to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.

Danny Rohl’s View

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl gave an update on Hatsuse’s situation back in January, saying:

“Ryo was here the last three days. He will stay until tomorrow. And after that we’ll sit together and see what we can do. So far he’s trained really well, he was immediately open-minded – my team were welcoming as well. He’s showed some good things in training, but we have to speak, have communication and a meeting. Then we’ll have a final decision for what we can do.”

Hatsuse comes to Sheffield Wednesday with a wealth of experience from his time in Japan. He spent the last five years at Vissel Kobe, where he made 196 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals. During his time at the club, he helped them secure two J-League titles. Prior to his time at Vissel Kobe, he had stints with Gamba Osaka and Avispa Fukuoka.

Writer’s View

Sheffield Wednesday’s pursuit of Ryo Hatsuse could turn out to be a shrewd move. With a solid track record in Japan, he brings valuable experience and defensive depth to the squad. While there may be an initial adjustment period, Hatsuse’s ability to help the team push for a play-off spot is a real possibility. Sheffield Wednesday’s ambition is evident, and if this signing goes through, it could add a key piece to their quest for success in the Championship.
