Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Coventry City’s defeat to Leeds United on Wednesday has put a slight dent in their playoff charge but Lampard’s men are in fine form, winning the four matches before defeat to the league leaders. Victories at home against Bristol City and Watford alongside wins on the road at Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City have put Sky Blues within three points of the top six.

United States of America international Haji Wright leads the club’s goalscoring charts with seven but he is unavailable for this clash due to an injury sustained in the draw with Sunderland in November. Brandon Thomas-Asante, Ellis Simms, Ephron Mason-Clark and Victor Torp all have four goals while Jack Rudoni leads the way in assists with an impressive eight. Lampard’s side have score 41 and conceded 40 goals in the Championship this season along their way to achieving 41 points from 31 matches.

Ipswich Town head to Coventry in need of a win after losing their last four. In fact, the Tractor Boys last won in their 3rd round tie at home to League One outfit Bristol Rovers in January. In 11 Premier League away matches, McKenna’s side have won just twice and conceded 23 goals. Despite their poor form, Ipswich still find themselves in touch at the bottom of the league as they are just three points from safety with 16 points from 24 matches.

Liam Delap is the club’s top marksman with nine goals followed by another summer signing Sammie Szmodics who has four. Leif Davis, Delap and Jack Clarke have all chipped in with two assists each. On average, Ipswich have conceded two goals per game but have only managed to score 0.9 times per 90 minutes.

These two sides have been fairly evenly matched over their 10 most recent meetings with Ipswich Town edging it by four wins to three. Last season saw Ipswich Town complete the double over the Sky Blues on their way to promotion to the Premier League. At Portman Road, Kieran McKenna’s side ran out victorious thanks to goals from George Hirst and Wes Burns giving the Tractor Boys a 2-1 win. They repeated that score at the Coventry Building Society Arena thanks to Kieffer Moore and Cameron Burgess goals either side of a Haji Wright strike handed Ipswich a vital win in their ultimately successful promotion push.

It was only five years ago that these sides were meeting in League One during the disrupted Covid season that saw Coventry promoted as champions on the points per game system. The Sky Blues, then managed by Mark Robins, picked up four points against Paul Lambert’s Ipswich, drawing the ‘home’ match at Birmingham City’s St Andrew’s Stadium 1-1 thanks to a Maxime Biamou cancelling out a Will Keane opener. Just before the season was suspended, a Matt Godden strike was enough to earn all three points for Robins’ men.

Included in the last ten meetings have been two FA Cup ties thanks to a 2nd round tie going to a replay in December 2019.. The first meeting saw the sides unable to be separated as they played out a 1-1 draw, with Callum O’Hare forcing a replay when he equalised in the 90th minute to cancel out Will Keane’s 50th minute strike. The replay was settled by Jordan Shipley and Maxime Biamou as they fired Coventry into a two goal lead before Luke Garbutt netted a late consolation.
