Leeds United Transfer Update Issued

Leeds United are reportedly done with business in the transfer window as the deadline looms, with the club not looking for new additions according to BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella.

Kinsella is reporting that Leeds had been exploring some deals as the window comes to a close but decided against making any moves as no deals materialised.

The Championship leaders had been linked with a move for Southampton striker Cameron Archer but a move has proven difficult to do, and the striker looks likely to stay at St Mary’s Stadium as his club look to achieve the impossible and stay in the top flight with relegation seemingly inevitable. The Saints clearly want him around the club for that fight, so a drop down a division for Archer looks like it won’t happen.

With a move for Archer off the cards and no more deals likely, the Whites will have to hope they stay injury free for the remainder of the season. The like of Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have been influential to Leeds’ success so far and will hope to stay fit as the club go for promotion, with an injury crisis up front with no opportunity for signings not what Leeds will want.

It had also been reported that Leeds were looking to sign a left-sided defender to improve their depth, but again it’s looking like that won’t happen. The Yorkshire outfit will, therefore, have to cope with the likes of Junior Firpo and Pascal Struijk until the end of the season, with boss Daniel Farke clearly happy with his squad and confident that they will bring Leeds back to the top-flight after a two year absence.

Leeds find themselves top of the Championship after a fantastic first half of the season, and are in the drivers seat for promotion as it stands. Therefore, recruitment is all the more important and the hierarchy at Elland Road look to favour sticking with what they’ve got than rushing any last-minute deals which could jeopardise their chance for the title.

Writer’s View

This makes sense. Leeds won’t want to do any deals unless they’re absolutely certain as they won’t want to make any decisions that affect their title chase. The temptation is always to add the odd player at the end of the window if anyone becomes available, but Leeds clearly back their current squad and don’t want to rush into anything they don’t need. This is a shrewd move, and a low-risk, wise decision.
