Colchester United boss Danny Cowley expressed his delight at his side’s 3-1 win at Tranmere Rovers, labelling the display as their ‘most complete away performance of the season’, as reported by The Daily Gazette.
The victory was Colchester’s first win at Preston Park in 11 attempts.
Back-To-Back Wins
Victory on the Wirral saw The U’s claim consecutive wins for the first time this season and they had a Lyle Taylor brace and a strike from Owura Edwards to thank for all three points.
Cowley was delighted with his side, saying:
“It was a really good performance from us, probably our most complete away performance of the season.”
“In the first half, I thought we had a really good way into the game.”
“We got good control, good rhythm to play really well and we were able to get overloads in the wide areas.”

Excellent All Over The Pitch
The former Portsmouth manager was delighted with the team’s performance but also highlighted the contribution of individuals.
“I thought Ellis Iandolo was exceptional, Owura caused them real problems, Payney, Lyle, Teddy just gives us control, Harry just worked so hard for the team, in that top end of the pitch.”
Find The Moment Among Haymakers
Cowley likened Tranmere’s start to the second half to a boxer throwing haymaker and was pleased with how his side managed the situation and reacted to Kristin’s Dennis pulling a goal back.
“They made a couple of offensive subs, threw everything at it and we just had to defend well and pick them off, on the counter.”
“I said to Owura that the best attacking players find the moment when the team really needs them.”
“Tranmere had just got a goal back, the crowd had lifted and got back with them and we really needed to find that third goal at that point and I’m pleased that we did.”
Taylor’s goals were his eighth and ninth League Two strikes of the season and Cowley was impressed with the tactics behind the penalty as he attempted to confuse the goalkeeper.
“Lyle’s just very tactical and I don’t think he wanted to give their goalkeeper an idea he was taking it and that’s why he let Teddy stand there.”
Writer’s View
Colchester’s season looks like it is one to build momentum and bring the feel-good factor back to the club as relegation and promotion seem too far away. For Tranmere, this defeat could have far greater implications as they are just three points above the bottom two and on a dreadful run of form.
