Leeds United winger Manor Solomon believes his side will win tonight’s crucial Championship clash against Burnley at Turf Moor.
The Whites travel to Lancashire top of the table knowing that victory would see them extend their lead to four points. However, the second tier has once again proved to be compelling viewing this season it what has emerged as a four-way tussle for the title.
Sheffield United have been Leeds’ closest challengers in recent weeks. The Blades suffered a shock 3-0 home defeat against relegation-threatened Hull City on Friday night, once again blowing the race wide open.
It’s first versus third tonight, with Burnley knowing they can move level on points with Daniel Farke’s side if they can secure a second win of the campaign over the Yorkshire-based team.
Solomon Looking For Revenge
Leeds have been formiddable at Elland Road this season, although they have suffered one defeat in front of their own supporters. This came at the hands of Burnley in September when a solitary Luca Koleosho goal earned the Clarets the three points.
That goal came from an error from Leeds winger Manor Solomon, who is hoping to make amends at Turf Moore tonight. Speaking ahead of the game, the 25-year-old said:
“I remember this game especially because I slipped and it cost us a goal, but I think we’re the better team.
“When Burnley played here, we lost the game, but we were the better side. We controlled the game. We got many chances which we didn’t take advantage of, but hopefully if we make the same game as a few months ago I think we’re going to win this game.
“We have a really big game on Monday, but each and every game is a big game for us.
“Of course, when you play Burnley away, one of the contenders to win the league or to get promoted it’s an even bigger game. But three points is three points.
“We took three points in our last game (against Norwich), and we want to do it away in Burnley and we don’t want to come and just get a good result that will keep us in the top two, we want to come and win this game, definitely.”
Writer’s View
Leeds have a huge opportunity to take a grip on their bid for automatic promotion tonight. Beating Burnley would see them open up a four point gap over second-placed Sheffield United whilst also moving six points clear of Scott Parker’s team. Solomon’s thoughts will echo the rest of the squad that they are more than good enough to secure the victory. However, the Championship is often viewed as one of the most exciting leagues in the world and it is highly likely that tonight could provide another twist to the tale.
