Leeds United manager Daniel Farke believes the 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday was deserved, although admits his side rode their luck at times.
With Sheffield United beating Norwich City on Saturday, the Whites entered the game knowing that only three points would see them regain their lead at the top of the Championship. It took just three minutes for the home side to get their noses in front when Manor Solomon drove the ball home after Owls goalkeeper James Beadle spilled the ball from a swift counter attack.
Wednesday responded well though and were arguably the better team in a tense first half. Leeds held firm and as the visitors pushed for an equaliser in the game’s final stages, the win was secured through Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka.
“Deserved Victory”
Speaking after the game, Farke admitted that Sheffield Wednesday had their spells but it was his team which thoroughly deserved the three points. Via The Star, the 48-year-old said:
“It was a really good game against a really good opponent, an in-form team – good players, good manager. You have to be on it and it’s never easy to win games at this level. It’s was mature and solid performance…
“I think it was well deserved because even though in the first half they got good chances and they tried to chase a game in the second half, we had even more possession and dominated. You could see that they play with confidence and freedom and that they are a good side, but there is also no doubt that we deserved to win this game – it was good performance.”
Writer’s View
It’s a testament to just how good Leeds are that they can still win 3-0 when they are arguably not at their best. Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl stated in the aftermath of the game that the Whites are the best team in the league and it’s hard to argue with that opinion. Although Sheffield United, Burnley and Sunderland are all keeping pace, you have to feel that this is Leeds’ league to lose. If anyone finishes above them, they will be crowned champions.
