Sheffield United Prepare For Top Flight Interest In Star

AS Monaco and Ipswich Town are among the clubs vying to secure Sheffield United forward Ryan Oné during the January transfer window.

According to L’Equipe, the 18-year-old is attracting attention from several European clubs, including Juventus and Red Bull Salzburg, but Ipswich appear to be making significant progress in their pursuit.

Monaco’s Interest

Monaco are reportedly part of a “small group” of clubs monitoring Oné’s development. The Ligue 1 outfit is focused on signing young players with high potential, and Oné’s profile fits their criteria. Despite limited opportunities at Sheffield United, where he has made only 12 appearances this season—scoring one goal—Oné’s talent continues to attract suitors.

The Scotland U19 international moved to Sheffield United in September 2023 from Hamilton Academical, signing a long-term deal until 2029. He had impressed during his time in Scotland, becoming a first-team regular at Hamilton as a teenager and scoring key goals, including a winner in the semi-final of the SPFL Trust Trophy. His performances earned praise from then-manager John Rankin, even amidst transfer speculation linking him with clubs like Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ipswich Town Close to Making a Move

In addition to Monaco’s interest, Ipswich Town are reportedly “close to drawing an offer” for the young striker. Manager Kieran McKenna is believed to be keen on bringing Oné to bolster Ipswich’s attacking options as they push for a strong finish to their Championship campaign. The Tractor Boys are seemingly eager to outpace competition from Juventus and Salzburg by acting decisively in the transfer market.

Oné’s Journey So Far

Oné began his career at Hamilton Academical, breaking into the first team during the 2022–23 season. He gained plaudits for his performances and resilience, particularly as transfer speculation swirled around him. In his debut season, he became a key figure for Hamilton, scoring his first league goal in August 2023. His impressive displays led to his move to Sheffield United later that year.

At Sheffield United, Oné has split his time between the youth and senior teams, scoring on his debuts for both the U18 and U21 squads. However, limited first-team opportunities under Chris Wilder have led to speculation about his future, with potential suitors ready to offer him a fresh start.

Writer’s View

Ryan Oné’s potential has made him a sought-after prospect despite his limited senior appearances. Monaco’s reputation for nurturing young talent and Ipswich’s urgency to strengthen their squad make both destinations appealing. However, Ipswich’s proactive approach could see them secure Oné ahead of their competitors, offering the young striker a platform to thrive in a more prominent role.
