Eastleigh have announced the loan signing of striker Rekeil Pyke from League Two side Grimsby Town.
The 27-year-old forward will join the Spitfires until the end of the season as they push for a play-off spot and promotion.
Pyke’s Journey So Far
Pyke began his career at Huddersfield Town, where he spent 11 years rising through the ranks. He made his Championship debut for the club in 2020 against Fulham. During his time with the Terriers, Pyke gained valuable experience in the National League through loan spells with Wrexham, making 26 league appearances for the Welsh side across two stints.
In 2020, Pyke made his first permanent move, joining Shrewsbury Town. Over three seasons with the League One outfit, he racked up 65 appearances and further honed his skills. More recently, he played for Grimsby Town, where he was teammates with current Eastleigh player Niall Maher during the 2023/24 campaign.
Ambitions with the Spitfires
Upon signing for Eastleigh, Pyke expressed his determination to make a significant impact during his loan spell:
“I just want to help the team as much as possible to get in the play-offs or get promoted.”
Pyke’s addition bolsters Eastleigh’s attacking options as they aim to strengthen their push for success this season. His experience across the Championship, League One, and National League makes him a valuable asset to the Spitfires.
Eastleigh This Season
Eastleigh have been having a pretty steady season in the National League so far, sitting in 11th place. They’ve played 27 matches, winning 9, drawing 11, and losing 7. Their goal difference is a slim +2, with 37 goals scored and 35 conceded. While their form has been decent overall, they’ll be looking to climb a few spots in the table.
Recent results have been a bit of a mixed bag. On Tuesday, the 14th of January, they grabbed a solid 1-0 away win over Solihull Moors. However, they fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Altrincham at home on Saturday, the 18th of January. Despite the recent loss, Eastleigh remains a competitive side with strong potential to push further up the table.
