Grant McCann Issues Doncaster Rovers Transfer Update

Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has admitted that he is ‘not actively looking’ to add to his squad before the end of the transfer window.

The South Yorkshire-based side are chasing promotion from League Two this season. They currently sit sixth in the table, although they are just one point off the automatic promotion places.

McCann has already added midfielder Charlie Crew, winger Ethan Ennis and striker Rob Street to his ranks this month. The latter has already contributed, scoring his first goal for the club in a 2-1 defeat against Port Vale.

More Additions Unlikely

The trio of players could well be the only players to arrive at the Eco-Power Stadium closes on February 3rd, although hasn’t ruled out the possibility altogether. Speaking ahead of the clash against Harrogate Town at the weekend, the 44-year-old said:

“You never say never but we’re happy with the squad we have and I feel we’re strong in every position. You don’t know what is around the corner, so we’ve got an open mind on that. But at this moment in time are we actively looking to bring somebody in? No. We’ve got a few irons in the fire if anything did happen.”

Continuing, McCann revealed his delight at having a fully fit squad at his disposal:

“We’re pleased to have everyone back on the training ground. To have a fully fit squad at this stage of the season is really pleasing.

“I think it could be the first time in my management career really, to have everyone fit. I don’t want to tempt fate but hopefully it stays like that.”

Writer’s View

Doncaster are well in the hunt for automatic promotion and having strength in depth will play a huge part in how the remainder of their season goes. Their limited business has been smart. Rob Street will add fire power to the front line whilst Ennis is highly rated at Manchester United and will also improve attacking options. Rovers will feel that they are one of the favourites to finish in the top three with the players they have on their books. Although Walsall are out of site at the top of the division, nobody would bet against Grant McCann’s side grabbing one of the other two spots.
