First Prediction For Newport County vs Swindon Town: Match Result – Swindon Town – 97/100
On paper at least, there is only one winner in this Friday night showdown. The Robins have finally begun to put distance between themselves and the bottom two having opened up an eight point gap, so they can start to breathe a little easier. That has seen Ian Holloway’s side move above a few sides at the bottom including Newport County, and that is no surprise given the Exiles recent form. The side from South Wales have only played twice in 2025 but have lost both, making it four defeats in a row. It’s hard to know which Newport side will turn up, looking resilient in defence with three clean sheets in four before shipping eight goals in their next two games last month. Having drawn half of their away games, a stalemate could perhaps have been expected but the differing form of both means the Robins could nick this one.
Second Prediction For Newport County vs Swindon Town: Over 3.5 Goals – 173/100
In short, goals should be expected in this one. Only six sides in the fourth tier have scored more home goals than Nelson Jardim’s side this campaign, and they have played the fewest game on their own patch in the division. Going on goals per game, only runaway leaders Walsall have a better scoring rate. Swindon have shipped plenty of goals on their travels, ranked in fourth place for that particular metric in League Two. That’s not to say though that tonight all the goals will flow in one direction, particularly given that Swindon have avoided defeat in three of their last five outings in all competitions, including a shock EFL Trophy victory at Wycombe last month. Given Newport scored six at home against MK Dons over a month ago, goals look to be on the cards again.
Third Prediction For Newport County vs Swindon Town: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 11/20
In four of Newport’s last five games, both teams have been on the scoresheet, and in high numbers too. Swindon have too been fruitful infront of goal, scoring in six of eight of their last encounters. In the months of October and November, only two games involving the Robins finished without both sides finding the net. These two sides have conceded 84 times between them in the league this campaign, which has them ranked in the bottom three in terms of goals conceded in League Two. But in the Exiles case, goals have begun to arrive in greater numbers, scoring eleven in their past six. Only three fourth tier sides have scored more in that time, meaning goals should arrive at both ends in this encounter.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
The Exiles recent form has been dismal since they defeated Milton Keynes Dons in a nine-goal thriller. They were involved in a similarly entertaining game on Boxing Day, but were on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline. After a reverse in the West Midlands against runaway leaders Walsall, Nelson Jardim’s side suffered a home defeat to AFC Wimbledon.
Newport were then out of action for over two weekends. Firstly, their meeting against Morecambe fell foul to the weather while the trip to Accrington Stanley had already been postponed due to the hosts progress in the FA Cup. But their return to league football at the weekend was unsuccessful one, going down 3-2 against Port Vale. These goal-filled encounters contrast to a run a few weeks earlier, when three of their four games ended goalless. A score draw at Wimbledon was the only game with goals during that sequence.
Ian Holloway meanwhile has seen his Swindon side climb above their hosts on Friday evening as a result of one league loss in seven. Success over Barrow last weekend moved his side eight points clear of the bottom two. A narrow exit to the EFL Trophy was a respectable effort given they were facing the highest ranked side in the competition in Birmingham City.
Before that, the Robins had opened 2025 with a win, draw and a loss. George Cox dispatched a 98th minute penalty to see off Colchester on New Year’s Day, before promotion hopefuls Notts County defeated them. Their only other game in January was a goalless draw against Crewe. Holloway defeated old club Grimsby before festive stalemates against AFC Wimbledon and Bromley.
First played in 1920, these sides have met 97 times during the century that has followed. Swindon resoundingly won the encounter earlier in the campaign 4-0 to record their first win of the season. The Robins also hold the superior head-to-head record with 45 victories compared to Newport’s 31, although the Exiles will take hope from the fact that they have both won one league meeting each in the past three seasons.
