Shrewsbury Town have confirmed the signing of former Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Dominic Gape on a deal until the end of the season.
The 30-year-old joins Salop after leaving non-league side Eastleigh, where his contract expired on Sunday.
Experienced Midfielder Joins Salop
Gape brings a wealth of EFL experience to the Shropshire club, having began his career at Southampton, where he progressed through the academy. He made his name at Wycombe Wanderers. His commitment and consistency made him a fan favourite and a reliable team player., having made over 170 league appearances for Wycombe during a seven-year stint. The midfielder worked under Shrewsbury manager Gareth Ainsworth during that time, making him a familiar face for the Town boss.
This season, Gape featured 10 times for Eastleigh in the National League, registering one assist in a 2-2 draw against Yeovil Town. Despite his contributions, he did not play in Eastleigh’s last two matches, which included a defeat to Altrincham and a victory over Solihull Moors.

Strengthening the Squad
Gape becomes Shrewsbury’s second January signing after the arrival of Callum Stewart from National League North side Leamington. Stewart, 21, signed a two-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2027, highlighting Salop’s mix of youth and experience in their recruitment strategy.
Shrewsbury have shown steady form in League One, collecting 12 points from their last 10 matches. They face a challenging away fixture at Charlton Athletic this weekend, where Gape could make his debut for the club.
Writer’s View
The addition of Dominic Gape provides Shrewsbury Town with a seasoned midfield option as they aim to solidify their position in League One. His extensive experience under Gareth Ainsworth at Wycombe should make for a seamless transition into the team. Though his recent spell in non-league football may raise questions, Gape’s proven track record in the EFL suggests he could play a key role for Salop in the months ahead.
The blend of experience from Gape and youthful promise from Callum Stewart reflects a balanced transfer strategy, with the club preparing for both immediate needs and long-term development. With Shrewsbury’s form improving, these additions may help them maintain their momentum as they look to climb the League One table.
