Lincoln City Boss Hoping To Build On Victory

Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala has called on his side to build on this afternoon’s narrow 1-0 victory over Northampton Town this afternoon.

The Imps have been in a run of dreadful form as of late and travelled to Sixfields having not tasted victory since December 21st. That win over Reading was also their only three points in League One in 12 outings, which had seen them slip out of the play-off places into mid table.

Aside from their league form, Lincoln also crashed out of two cup competitions this week. They exited the FA Cup against Birmingham City last weekend before losing 1-0 to Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night in the EFL Trophy.

It has been a frustrating time for Skubala, who has reiterated that his side haven’t necessarily got what they’ve deserved in recent weeks. That was certainly the case in the two cup games, where they were arguably the better team in both. However, it is their lack of fire power which has cost them, with a Jovon Makama penalty against Birmingham the only time they have found the net in the last six games.

Skubala Hoping To Build On Win

The East Midlands-based outfit secured a 1-0 win over struggling Northampton thanks to a solitary Tendayi Darikwa strike this afternoon. Speaking after the game to official club media, Skubala called on his side to carry that momentum into next weekend’s clash with Peterborough United:

“It’s been small margins. The lads have been frustrated like the fans have been because we want to win like everyone else.

“We know it’ll be a tough game against Peterborough at home next Saturday but we want to give our fans something to shout about. There is hard work to do in the week because the aim is to keep improving, but it’s three points today and we want to kick on now.”

Lincoln have consistently claimed that they haven’t been getting the rub of the green in front of goal in recent weeks. To finally halt their winless run will come as a huge boost, although it will still be a concern that the only goal of the game came from a defender. However, it’s often said that luck can play a role when it comes to breaking bad luck. With Skubala still targeting a striker before the transfer deadline, this should give them some much needed confidence ahead of a return to the LNER Stadium next week.
