Dion Charles has revealed Huddersfield Town‘s ambition is what led to him switching Bolton Wanderers for the Terriers.
The 29-year-old completed his move to the John Smith’s Stadium yesterday for an undisclosed fee. The transfer gathered speed quickly, with Bolton boss Ian Evatt confirming a bid had been accepted following the 1-0 EFL Trophy win over Lincoln City on Tuesday night.
It is Huddersfield’s second major attacking signing of the transfer window after they acquired Joe Taylor from Luton Town at the end of last week. The duo will now be tasked with firing Michael Duff’s team back into the Championship at the first time of asking.
Charles Delighted To Complete Move
The former Accrington Stanley man has risen to prominence in League One since his move to Bolton. With 57 goals in 149 appearances, he is a player who knows where the back of the net is and will be hoping to hit the ground running against Blackpool on Saturday.
Speaking to official club media following the announcement, Charles said:
“I was immediately attracted to the ambition of the club and prospect of playing my part in getting Huddersfield Town back where we belong, so I’m delighted to have completed the move and become a Town player.
“In discussions with Mark Cartwright and Michael Duff, you get excited about where the club want to be and the levels expected from the players who are here. I’ve only heard great things about the club and team from Brodie (Spencer) and Callum (Marshall), and I believe this is the right move for my career and somewhere I can look to push myself to become an even better player.
“There’s a really important second half of the season to come, but with the team in great form and the mood around the club so positive, I’m just looking forward to pulling on the shirt for the first time and showing what I’m all about.”
Writer’s View
Having not lost in League One since October 1st, Huddersfield are the in-form team in the division. 15 games unbeaten in no mean feat, but you have to feel that their recent transfer business will elevate them to the next level. In Dion Charles and Joe Taylor, they now have an attacking force which will compare with Birmingham City’s Jay Stansfield and Alfie May. This has to put them as one of the favourites to secure automatic promotion come May.
