Burnley are the latest team to add their name to the ever-growing list of interested parties for Leicester City striker Tom Cannon, according to journalist Sami Mokbel.
The 22-year-old had been on a season-long loan with Stoke City, although has been the subject of much speculation over the past week. With 11 goals in all competitions for the Potters in what has been his most prolific goalscoring campaign of his career, Sheffield United and Sunderland were named as potential suitors.
Leicester’s deal with Stoke included an option to recall the attacker this month, but that had to be triggered by midnight yesterday. The Championship outfit then announced this morning that the Foxes had triggered that clause.
The Staffordshire-based team had been preparing for his potential exit from the bet365 Stadium by recalling striker Nathan Lowe back from his season-long loan with League Two leaders Walsall.
Quartet Chase Cannon
Sheffield United and Sunderland’s interest in Cannon has been well documented. However, it has now been claimed that another two teams have joined the race. This includes Burnley, who are currently battling the Blades and the Black Cats in the race for promotion.
Scott Parker’s team sit second in the table, one point behind leaders Leeds United, and are looking to bolster their attacking options this month. Journalist Mokbel claims the Clarets will turn to Cannon to solve that dilemma in a fee which could be as much as £10 million.
The second tier trio do face competition from the Premier League though, with Everton also said to be in the running. The Republic of Ireland international rose through the ranks at Goodison Park before joining Leicester in 2023. It appears as though David Moyes, who returned to Merseyside last week, has identified the player as someone who can help fire the Toffees to safety.

It’s no surprise to see Burnley add their name to the list of interested clubs in Tom Cannon. The attacker has excelled in the Championship this season and also performed well during a loan spell with Preston North End in 2023. The Clarets would hate for him to become a player at another promotion rival, especially if his goals provide the catalyst to send them to the Premier League.
£10 million is a significant chunk of money though. It will be interesting to see if he drops back down to the second tier or remains in the Premier League with either Everton or Leicester.
