Oldham Athletic Secure Championship Man On Loan

Oldham Athletic are set to bolster their squad with the loan signing of Cardiff City goalkeeper Jake Dennis, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The 20-year-old stopper is expected to join the National League side as he seeks valuable first-team experience.

A New Opportunity for Jake Dennis

Dennis has been with Cardiff City since joining their academy at the Under-9 level and has risen through the ranks to become a regular at various youth levels. However, with no senior appearances for the Bluebirds to date, the young goalkeeper is eager for a chance to develop his skills in a competitive environment.

The move to Oldham Athletic represents Dennis’s second loan spell, following a brief stint with Gloucester City last season, where he featured in seven matches. Despite Gloucester’s relegation from the National League North, Dennis gained crucial experience that has prepared him for the challenges ahead.

Cardiff City, currently battling in the Championship relegation zone, are giving Dennis the green light to leave temporarily, allowing him to hone his craft under the guidance of Oldham manager Micky Mellon. The Bluebirds will closely monitor his progress as they consider his long-term future, with his current contract set to expire this summer.

Oldham’s Promotion Push

The Latics are in fifth place in the National League, firmly in the mix for promotion back to the Football League. Manager Micky Mellon, known for his successful stints with Fleetwood Town and Shrewsbury Town, is keen to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season.

Bringing in a talented goalkeeper like Dennis could be a key move for Oldham. With Mellon’s track record of developing young talent and the team’s ambition to climb the league table, this partnership has the potential to be mutually beneficial.

“A lot of young players have come through in the last few years, like Isaak [Davies] and Rubin [Colwill]. It shows the staff are willing to trust young players in that environment. There’s a great opportunity for us young players to go through to the First Team,” Dennis said after signing his professional deal with Cardiff.

Jake Dennis’s loan move to Oldham Athletic is a promising step for both the player and the club. For Dennis, it’s an invaluable chance to gain first-team minutes and prove his readiness for senior football. For Oldham, securing a young and motivated goalkeeper could provide the defensive stability needed in their promotion push. With Micky Mellon’s leadership and a clear path for development, this loan deal could significantly benefit all parties involved.
