Plymouth Argyle will speak to unemployed manager Miron Muslic in regards to their vacancy according to a report.
The Pilgrims are still in search of a successor to Wayne Rooney after the former Birmingham City boss was given the boot after a dire run in charge of the club. One name has already been ruled out of the shortlist, with David Wagner turning down the opportunity.
Austrian In The Running
According to Sky Sports News’ Mark McAdam, Austrian manager Miron Muslic is a candidate for the Plymouth job, and will speak to club officials in London this week. He was most recently in charge of Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge, leaving the club last month after over 100 games in charge.
It was his first time managing outside of his homeland, having previously led Austrian second-division side Floridsdorfer AC and SV Ried, the latter of which was a two-month spell before becoming an assistant at Cercle.
He had been linked to a role in the Championship over the summer, with him being a candidate for the Sunderland job prior to The Black Cats appointing Regis Le Bris to the post. Muslic is not the only person being considered by Plymouth as it stands.
Writer’s View
This feels like a very left-field choice for Plymouth Argyle to go down and would be extremely risky to go for an unknown quantity like Miron Muslic. He had done some very solid work with Cercle Brugge but never was able to crack into the upper echelons of Belgian football. He did however get them into the UEFA Conference League, with the club eighth in the Group Stages of that competition, however, their league form has put them in serious trouble of relegation and did see him leave the club last month. With Plymouth in a very similar situation, it feels they should go for a more steady, reliable hand to try and get them out of the relegation spots this season.
