1st prediction for Chelsea vs Morecambe – Chelsea to win 1/100
This is about the most one sided fixture the draw could have brought about, but it really does highlight the magic of the cup. This is likely the biggest game of many Morecambe players’ careers, and a game only the cup could bring about. Given the gulf between the two sides, Chelsea are clearly favourites, especially given their strong season and Morecambe’s struggles. If Morecambe get a result from this game, especially without replays, it will be one of the biggest shocks in FA Cup history. As the odds suggest, though, it’s extremely unlikely.
2nd prediction for Chelsea vs Morecambe: Over 2.5 goals in the game 9/100
All the stats and facts indicate that this will be an absolute thrashing. Chelsea have dropped off ever so slightly recently, and they will rotate heavily as they attack other competitions, but even so they’re so much stronger than Morecambe. They’re the home side and will have a huge number of chances, with Morecambe likely to camp behind the ball or they’ll get picked off. With talent such as Jadon Sancho, Christopher Nkunku and Cole Palmer, Chelsea have a range of attacking superstars, and with Morecambe languishing second-bottom of the EFL, it’s hard to see anything apart from annihilation.
3rd prediction for Chelsea vs Morecambe: Both teams to score – No 11/20
Again, this game will be pretty one-sided, and it will be a minor miracle if Morecambe get anything more than a half chance at goal, with possession of the ball likely to be all Chelsea. While most of the attention is on Chelsea’s attack, Morecambe will still have a job breaking down their defence, which is obviously of the highest quality. Their best chance is on the counter attack, and even that will be a struggle, again purely based on the gulf in quality. With Morecambe averaging less than a goal a game in League Two, they’re struggling to score against similar level teams, so this will be even tougher of a task.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head
This is about as polarised a game as you can get and is one of the highlights of this third round of fixtures – it really does highlight the magic of the cup and would be one of the all-time surprises if Morecambe get a result.
Despite their obvious strength, Chelsea come into this one on mixed form, with a few poor results in the Premier League recently. Morecambe have been similarly poor, with only two wins in their last six seeing them into the League Two relegation zone. In terms of their last games, it’s actually Morecambe who have the advantage, coming off the back of a victory over Tranmere Rovers while Chelsea drew at Crystal Palace.
This is just the second ever meeting between the two teams, and the signs are not good for Morecambe. The last time they played Chelsea was also an FA Cup third round match, in 2021, which they lost 4-0.
