Sheffield Wednesday have received a bid from Brazilian giants Santos for top scorer Josh Windass, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
The 30-year-old was the subject of much speculation towards the end of last season. With his contract winding down, it was claimed that Windass had drawn interest from both home and abroad, including several clubs in the MLS.
With the Owls battling survival in the Championship, the versatile attacker suffered injury problems and had to watch from the sidelines. However, he returned towards the end of the campaign, scoring in Wednesday’s last three games to help the club maintain their Championship status.
Understandably, the Yorkshire-based club were desperate to keep the player, and it was announced in July that Windass had agreed terms to extend his stay at Hillsborough. The length of the deal remains unknown.
Windass Attracting Interest From South America
News emerged last night that Santos have launched a bid for the former Rangers man. The Brazilians are about to embark on a return to the top tier, having won the Serie B title last season.
According to Jacobs, Sheffield Wednesday have received an offer, with MLS clubs also maintaining an interest. Furthermore, it has been stated that the player has confirmed this morning to talkSPORT that the news is legit.
Windass has been electric form this season. He has 10 goals this season, which includes a stunning strike from inside his own half against Derby County on New Year’s Day. It’s moments like these that have seen Dany Rohl’s side move up the Championship in recent weeks. They currently sit 10th, three points off West Bromwich Albion in the final play-off place.

This isn’t the news that Sheffield Wednesday fans will have wanted to wake up to this morning. Windass has been imperative to the Owls since his arrival in 2020, including the winning goal in the League One play-off final win over Barnsley in 2023. Losing him in January would be a huge blow to their unlikely play-off aspirations as they’d not only have to replace a key member of the starting lineup, but they’d need to replace his goals too. On the face of it, a move to Brazil seems unlikely, but he has been linked with a move to South America since his Rangers days.
