Crystal Palace Decision Sets League One Teams On Alert

With the January transfer window just days away, Crystal Palace striker Adenika Ola-Adebomi is reportedly set to be recalled from his loan spell at Belgian second division side SK Beveren.

The 21-year-old has struggled to form in Belgium, prompting interest from several clubs in the English Football League (EFL) who are looking to secure his services on loan.

Talented Forward Struggling to Transition to Senior Football

Ola-Adebomi joined SK Beveren in August, hoping to kickstart his senior career, but the loan spell has not gone as planned. The forward has made just six starts across all competitions and is yet to score for the Belgian second-tier side. This mirrors a challenging stint at Burton Albion during the second half of the 2023/24 season, where he scored once and provided two assists in 14 League One appearances, averaging only 0.6 shots and dribbles per game.

The Crystal Palace academy graduate has seen his progress stall despite his standout performances at youth level. Ola-Adebomi netted 15 goals in 27 matches in the Premier League 2 and scored in an EFL Trophy tie with Stevenage in 2023. He also registered an impressive 22 goal involvements in 33 outings for Palace’s under-18 side. However, translating this potential into senior football remains a challenge for the promising forward.

Loan Recall Could Spark Fresh EFL Opportunity

According to football journalist Pete O’Rourke, Crystal Palace are set to recall Ola-Adebomi in January due to his struggles in Belgium. This move has reportedly sparked interest from several clubs in League One and League Two, who view him as a potential mid-season reinforcement.

The 21-year-old’s work rate and potential make him an intriguing option for teams seeking an injection of attacking quality. Clubs at the lower end of the EFL may particularly benefit from a loan deal, providing Ola-Adebomi with the regular game time he needs to find his feet in senior football. A move to a side tailored to his strengths could help the striker regain confidence and rediscover the form that made him a standout at youth level.

Writer’s View

While Adenika Ola-Adebomi has struggled to make an impact in senior football so far, his record at youth level suggests he possesses the talent to succeed. A return to England and a carefully chosen loan spell in the EFL could be just what he needs to kickstart his career. Clubs willing to provide him with consistent minutes may find themselves with a hidden gem, and the striker has every incentive to make the most of this potential opportunity.
