Walsall Set For Ahead Of Schedule Injury Return

Walsall will have an injury boost going into their final game of 2024 as Brandon Comley looks set to return to the squad.

The midfielder has been out of action since the end of November in the Saddlers’ loss to Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup with a fractured cheekbone but it is now believed he is close to a return before the end of the year.

“Not Far Away”

It was initially expected that he would be out for four to six weeks, but according to Mat Sadler in an interview with the Express and Star, Comley could be involved in their Boxing Day game against Doncaster Rovers.

“Hopefully. I don’t know about Thursday (on Boxing Day) – possibly. The mask is being fitted this week.

“Maybe the mask maskers thought they were getting a Christmas break. He’s been training because he’s been able to do that but he hasn’t done any contact since the Charlton game.

“We’ve also got to be mindful of that but he’s not far away.”

Comley has played seven times for Walsall this season in League Two, all coming from the bench. He had broken his leg in a pre-season clash against Premier League side Aston Villa as well, meaning he has been limited to a total of 135 minutes across the campaign.

Walsall will want as many players at their disposal now and bringing Brandon Comley back into the fold will be another option for Mat Sadler from the bench. He played 38 times last season for the club and is primed for League Two football but with the leg break it meant he has now become largely a rotation option for the squad. With some calmer fixtures and an EFL Trophy game against Peterborough United to navigate, it is likely Comley will be getting some more action in the near future.
