Lincoln City Striker Sets Premier League Ambition

Lincoln City striker Bailey Cadamarteri has revealed his ambition to follow in his father’s footsteps and play in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan at the LNER Stadium from Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday, dropping to League One in search of regular first team minutes. He is highly rated at Hillsborough, with Lincoln chosen as a destination in the summer thanks to their development of loan players in the past.

The likes of Brennan Johnson and Morgan Rogers have both benefitted from temporary moves to the East Midlands in recent years. Both players are now full internationals playing in the Premier League.

Cadamarteri’s Eye For Goal

Cadamarteri has often found himself down in the pecking order of attackers during his brief spell at Lincoln thus far. He has had to be patient whilst teammates such as Ben House, Jovon Makama and Freddie Draper have all been preferred, although he has taken his chances when called upon.

The teenager was given a rare league start against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, scoring his seventh goal of the season in all competitions as the Imps emerged from the John Smith’s Stadium with a 2-2 draw. However, his lack of minutes have led to speculation that his parent club could recall him in January.

Premier League Ambition

The youngster’s father shot to fame in the late 90s with Premier League outfit Everton. This is a path that his son also wants to follow. Speaking to Sky SportsCadamarteri laid out his ambitions for the future:

“It’s everyone’s dream to represent your country and win the World Cup.

“But in the shorter term I’d love to beat my dad’s legacy. He played in the Premier League and scored a few goals, so if I can go on and do better than him I think I’ll have done well.”

In the short term, the attacker believes Lincoln was the right choice, pinpointing the loan spells of Brennan Johnson and Morgan Rogers as a driving force behind his decision:

“You look at those names and Brennan is flying at the minute. While Morgan has just been called up to the England squad. They were here on loan and they’ve gone on to achieve great things.”

Writer’s View

Lincoln’s use of Cadamarteri has been sparse thus far, but he looks to be playing himself into contention. Sections of the Imps’ support have called for the 19-year-old to start and that looks to have been justified by two goals in his last two games. It will be interesting to see if Sheffield Wednesday decide to recall him in January. If they do, there will be no shortage of offers to take him on loan for the second half of the season.
