Tommy Conway has described his move to Middlesbrough as the perfect step in his career, with the young striker relishing life both on and off the pitch after his summer switch from Bristol City.
The Scotland international has been instrumental in Boro’s rise up the Championship table, scoring eight goals in his first 17 league appearances.
Settling In and Hitting the Ground Running
Conway, who joined Middlesbrough for £4.5m in August, has formed a productive attacking partnership with Emmanuel Latte Lath. The pair have notched 16 league goals between them, driving Boro’s push into the play-off positions after a strong run of form.
The 22-year-old striker has seamlessly adapted to life on Teesside, despite initially moving far from his South-West roots. Speaking about his experience, Conway said:
“I’ve loved it here so far, and my family have loved it every time they’ve come up as well. I’ve settled in really well with the group and it feels like I’ve been here a long, long time.”
Having spent most of his formative years at Bristol City, Conway acknowledged the challenges of relocating. However, he has embraced the move and quickly made Middlesbrough feel like home.
“Settling in the area definitely has a big impact,” he added. “It’s a long way from home, but I’ve taken to the area really well and I’m happy.”
Focused on Promotion Push
Conway’s immediate impact has helped Middlesbrough climb into contention for promotion to the Premier League. He credits the club’s style of play under Michael Carrick for helping him thrive. The manager’s tactical approach aligns with Conway’s strengths, and he believes it has fast-tracked his development.
“I knew what the playing style was before I came,” Conway explained. “If I bought into it and worked hard, I knew I would learn quickly. That’s all I’ve been doing really. I feel like I’ve really been reaping the rewards on the pitch.”
With Middlesbrough now firmly in the promotion race, Conway is determined to maintain his form and help push the team towards the top flight.
“We need to keep our feet on the ground, but hopefully we can achieve a lot this season,” he said. “I’m focused on one thing and that’s my football.”
