Stockport County Seal Agreement With 19-Year-Old

Stockport County have announced that terms have been agreed with Icelandic club KR for the transfer of 19-year-old forward Benoný Breki Andrésson.

Subject to a work permit and international clearance, Andrésson will join the League Two club on a three-and-a-half-year deal when the January transfer window opens.

Record-Breaking Form in Iceland

Andrésson arrives at Edgeley Park following a historic season with KR, where he shattered the Icelandic top-flight goal-scoring record by netting 21 goals in just 26 league appearances. His impressive haul included a stunning five-goal display on the final day of the season against HK.

The Iceland U21 international’s prolific form wasn’t limited to senior football. A standout talent at youth level, Andrésson previously spent two years with Serie A side Bologna before returning to Iceland in 2023. He quickly established himself as one of KR’s key players, scoring nine league goals in his debut season before breaking records in his second campaign.

Emerging Talent Programme

Once his move is finalised, Andrésson will become the first signing of Stockport County’s January transfer window. He will initially join the club’s Emerging Talents programme, a development initiative aimed at nurturing young prospects to maximise their potential.

“Benoný is what we call an emerging talent signing, someone who we believe has high potential for the future but requires a development plan and huge effort from all parties to get him to where we think he can be,” said Director of Football Simon Wilson.

Patience and Promise

Wilson emphasised the need for patience as the young forward adapts to life in England, stating, “He has an opportunity at a great club, with great staff, players, and facilities, to create a very exciting future for himself. If we all get our heads down and work well together, we are confident of success.”

The undisclosed fee for Andrésson reflects Stockport County’s investment in long-term potential. The club’s faith in Andrésson is evident, and the 19-year-old will be eager to make his mark in English football while continuing to build on his extraordinary performances in Iceland.
