Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has revealed that in-form striker Tyrese Campbell is a major doubt for Wednesday’s Championship clash at Millwall due to hamstring and back issues.
However, the Blades have received a boost with the return of Kieffer Moore, who has recovered from a calf injury sustained in early November.
Campbell Injury Concerns
Campbell, who has been in outstanding form for United, had to be substituted during Sunday’s draw with West Brom. Wilder confirmed that the medical team is doing everything possible to ensure his availability but admitted the striker’s fitness remains uncertain.
“It’s tight and stiff, so he’s a doubt,” Wilder said. “These things happen. He’s been complaining of a bit of an issue with his back which obviously leads right the way back into your body and down your hamstring. He’ll be a big miss if he doesn’t make it, but we’ve got another 24ish hours to loosen that up. Fingers crossed.”
Campbell has been pivotal for Sheffield United recently, and his absence would be a significant blow for the Blades as they look to maintain momentum in their promotion push.
Better News with Moore and Brewster
While Campbell’s availability is in doubt, Wilder is buoyed by the return of experienced forward Kieffer Moore and the improving fitness of Rhian Brewster. Moore has been sidelined since picking up a calf injury during a win at Bristol City, while Brewster made a brief substitute appearance in the weekend’s game at The Hawthorns after recovering from injury.
“The plus point is we have Rhian and Kieffer back, so both of those boys will be involved,” Wilder added.
Additionally, defenders Harry Souttar and Anel Ahmedhodzic are available again after serving suspensions, providing the manager with more options as the Blades prepare for the tough away fixture.
Writer’s View
Sheffield United’s squad depth will be put to the test as they navigate injury concerns ahead of the Millwall game. While Campbell’s potential absence is a setback, the returns of Moore and Brewster offer hope for a robust attacking lineup. Wilder’s cautious approach to Campbell’s recovery is wise, given the long-term importance of the striker to their promotion ambitions. With key reinforcements back in the mix, United have a chance to secure a crucial result on the road.
