Bolton Wanderers are considering expanding their recruitment efforts abroad after the successful acquisition of Szabolcs Schön.
Schön, a 24-year-old wing-back, has impressed since joining the club, starting almost every league game and earning a return to the Hungary national team after a two-year absence.
Bolton’s Growing International Network
Manager Ian Evatt has been pleased with Schön’s contribution, and his success has reinforced Bolton’s strategy of scouting talent from Central Europe. The club’s established network, built over the past 18 months, has helped identify promising players, and while there is only one remaining foreign player slot available, Evatt is optimistic about further foreign additions.
“It is something we are looking at, definitely, even though there is only one real space left for the foreign market in the squad as it stands. The processes we have put in place behind the scenes are going to help us if that is the route we decide to go down.” – Ian Evatt
Bolton’s recruitment department, led by Chris Markham, is now working closely with data firm Ludonautics, headed by former Liverpool chief Ian Graham, to ensure smart and strategic acquisitions in the upcoming window.
Busy January Ahead for Bolton Wanderers
Evatt expects a busy January, with potential ins and outs as Bolton aim to strengthen their squad for a push toward automatic promotion in League One. Decisions are expected to be made regarding players like midfielder Aaron Morley and striker Dan Nlundulu, who are currently out on loan at Wycombe and Cambridge United.
“We are always looking to do business but I think we can do some more maintenance on the squad. We have a pretty clear idea of what we want and what we need and we’ll be trying to make that happen.”
Despite a somewhat average start to the season, Evatt is optimistic that the team is capable of a strong second half to the campaign, especially if they can keep key players fit and find a consistent rhythm. The club’s recruitment strategy will play a crucial role in the next steps of their journey.
