Phil Parkinson has decided he will wait to see how severe Callum Burton’s injury is before making any transfer decisions ahead of Wrexham‘s winter transfer window.
The 28-year-old joined on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle over the summer and had become the new starting keeper in the wake of Arthur Okonkwo’s wrist break. He made eight appearances for the Welsh club but was forced off the pitch 23 minutes into their most recent match against Barnsley with a thigh strain.
“We’ll Sleep On That”
Speaking to the Wrexham Leader, Parkinson revealed that the keeper would definitely miss their next game against Burton Albion, but was still unsure if they would sign an emergency keeper.
“We’ll have a look at that over the next 24 hours. Obviously Callum’s not going to be fit for the weekend, there’s no chance of that.
“It looks like a thigh strain so he’ll go straight for a scan. We won’t know more till the result of that scan.
“Arthur’s still a couple of weeks away so we’ll just sleep on it, see the extent of the injury and make a decision going into the weekend.”
Veteran goalie Mark Howard was brought onto the field and held his own as Ollie Rathbone sealed a late winner for The Red Dragons to keep them in second and within touching distance of leaders Wycombe Wanderers.

An injury to Callum Burton is a real headache for Wrexham in the next couple of weeks. Arthur Okonkwo is still unfit and with three fixtures in a week coming soon, Mark Howard will have to step up and hold the fort until the former Arsenal player returns. It would be likely to see an emergency keeper come in at the club for the period, and perhaps a Barnsley player in Jackson Smith may be a good option based on his performances with Grimsby Town.
