Bolton Wanderers have announced the addition of Craig Rowson as the club’s new head kit man, with former Blackpool striker Brett Ormerod stepping in as his assistant.
The reshuffle comes as Ted Moulden, a long-serving staff member, prepares to leave for a role at a top Premier League club.
Experience and Trust at the Helm
Rowson, who has worked closely with Moulden over the past four years, was the natural choice to take on the lead role. Ormerod, known for his impressive playing career with nearly 500 appearances for clubs like Blackpool, Preston, and Wrexham, brings a wealth of footballing experience to the backroom team.
“Craig has been with Ted all along, and he is an obvious choice. Brett ticks all the boxes. He’s an ex-Premier League footballer and a bubbly, positive character who will be a huge positive for the players,” said Wanderers boss Ian Evatt.
Evatt highlighted Ormerod’s understanding of the pressures of professional football, adding that his presence would benefit players both on and off the pitch. While his primary role will involve kit organisation, Ormerod’s insights as a former top-flight centre-forward could prove invaluable to the squad.
A Familiar Face Returns to the Game
Ormerod’s appointment marks a return to football after gaining coaching experience at AFC Fylde and Bamber Bridge. He has also been a regular pundit on BBC Radio Lancashire, showcasing his deep understanding of the game.
Although Ormerod’s role is primarily supportive, Evatt confirmed he would be available for games where two kit staff are required. His debut in this capacity could come as early as Saturday’s match against Bristol Rovers.
“We don’t take two kit men for every single game at the moment, so there may be times when he is not needed. His role is to help, sort the kit, organise, that’s it,” Evatt added.
Writer’s View
The appointment of Brett Ormerod as assistant kit man highlights Bolton Wanderers’ focus on creating a positive and professional environment behind the scenes. His vast experience as a player and his engaging personality are bound to resonate with the squad, adding another layer of support to the team’s infrastructure. Combined with Craig Rowson’s familiarity with the role, this partnership looks set to maintain the high standards established by Ted Moulden, ensuring continuity as Bolton push for success in League One.
