Huddersfield Town defender Josh Ruffels is looking forward to the Christmas period as he looks to establish himself in the starting eleven, as reported by Yorkshire Live.
Ruffels has endured a tough time through injuries in the past 12 months but is ready to take his chance.
A ‘Really Tough Time’
The former Oxford United left-back admitted that the last year has been a ‘really tough time‘ as his game time has been restricted due to groin and hernia injuries last term.
This season, the 31-year-old has been unable to dislodge Mikel Miller and has only appeared on four occasions. Ruffels came on for the second half in Tuesday’s victory at Leyton Orient, a match that saw Miller suffer an injury that will likely sideline him for a few weeks.
Ruffels has discussed how he kept going during the difficult months out of the side.
“In football, you have to keep your patience and be professional. It’s been the biggest test for me, over the last few months, but I’ve always tried to keep my mentality the same, and the way I go about my business, and thankfully it’s paid off. The gaffer’s got that trust in me to put me on at half-time, and I’m just glad I got the job done.”
Opportunity To Impress
Following Miller’s injury, Ruffels is looking forward to stepping up and helping the team climb the table.
“On a personal note, make no bones about it, it’s been a really tough time for me, the last year, being injured and trying to get back in the squad and stuff.”
“I’m really excited for the next few weeks. Football can change really quickly, and it’s proven it tonight. I’ve been out of the squad for a long time, and you suddenly get this opportunity, you have to grab it with both hands.”
Exciting Period Ahead
As we edge closer to the busy Christmas schedule, Ruffels revealed he looks forward to the festive period and the opportunities it brings.
“I’ve always relished the Christmas period, I think it’s a great opportunity to get up the league with plenty of games, and if you do well over that period, it really does shoot you into a good spot in the league.”
Writer’s View
Ruffels is an experienced League One footballer and his return to action and freshness could be a bonus to the Terriers as they embark on the tiring Christmas spell of games.
