As Carlisle United sit at the bottom of the League Two table, head coach Mike Williamson has shared a clear and encouraging message from the club’s American owners, the Piataks.
Ahead of the January transfer window, Williamson says the owners have expressed “unanimous” support to help the team navigate their way out of the relegation zone.
Backing from the Top
The Piataks, who own the Cumbrians through Castle Sports Group, have reaffirmed their commitment to providing resources and support for January dealings. Williamson highlighted the consistency of their backing since he took charge.
“The owners have given nothing but support in terms of, ‘Anything you need, let us know.’ That’s been the message since I’ve come in, so it’s been very consistent,” Williamson told the News & Star.
Williamson also revealed details of a recent meeting with the Piataks and sporting director Rob Clarkson, where plans for the upcoming transfer window were discussed. He added that the owners are eager to understand the team’s needs and have offered full backing for any necessary moves.
“They wanted to know exactly where we think we are – and again, the support was unanimous, in terms of, ‘Do what you need to do – just let us know what we can do,’” Williamson added.
January: A Pivotal Window
The January transfer window will be crucial as Carlisle look to climb away from the League Two relegation zone. With Williamson indicating potential player movement in both directions, he has also engaged in “honest” conversations with out-of-favour players, setting the stage for changes at Brunton Park.
The team’s immediate goal is to escape the bottom of the table, which they could achieve with a positive result in their upcoming fixture against Crewe Alexandra. Both Morecambe and Swindon Town are in FA Cup action this weekend, offering Carlisle an opportunity to improve their league standing.
