Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Honor Solomon has extended his loan spell at Atherton Colleries until the end of April, as confirmed by the non-league side’s official website.
The Championship club has allowed the 18-year-old to continue his development through regular game time in the Northern Premier League Division One West.
A Valuable Loan Experience
Solomon joined Atherton Colleries last month and has quickly established himself as a key figure in their goalkeeping department. The move comes as the team looks to climb away from the relegation zone, currently sitting 16th in the table, two points above the drop. Under the management of former Macclesfield boss Michael Clegg, Atherton recently earned a 1-0 victory against Trafford, bolstering their fight for survival.
For Solomon, the loan provides a vital opportunity to gain experience in senior football, a step up from the development side fixtures he would face at Blackburn Rovers. Having been part of Manchester City’s academy for eight years before joining Blackburn in 2022, the young stopper is continuing his upward trajectory.
From Academy to Senior Football
Solomon’s football journey began in Manchester City’s youth ranks, where he progressed through various age groups before moving to Blackburn Rovers. Since signing in 2022, he has featured prominently for the club’s Under-18 and Under-21 sides. Last season, he gained experience during a loan spell at Clitheroe, and his current stint with Atherton Colleries further solidifies his readiness for competitive football.
While Solomon is yet to make his first-team debut for Blackburn, his contract with the club runs until 2026, providing him with time to develop and compete for a spot in the senior squad. For now, his focus will remain on helping Atherton move up the table and away from the drop zone.
Writer’s View
Honor Solomon’s loan extension is a win-win for both the player and the clubs involved. Atherton Colleries gain a reliable presence in goal during a critical phase of their season, while Solomon continues to build his confidence and experience in senior football. For Blackburn Rovers, this ensures their young talent is sharpening his skills in a competitive environment, positioning him as a strong future contender for their first team.
