Walsall‘s family of linked clubs is set to expand with the Trivela group preparing to add a new side to their portfolio.
The American-based investment group purchased The Saddlers back in 2022 and have continued to invest in other football clubs across the world with Drogheda United and Trivela FC in Togo all being owned by the group.
Trivela Set Sights On Danish Side
According to the Express & Star, Walsall’s owners are in the process of purchasing Danish Superliga side Silkeborg IF, tabling a move to buy an 80% stake in the club.
Silkeborg are a strong side in the Danish top flight and are currently two points off of the top of the table ahead of a crunch clash against FC Midtjylland on Monday. They had previously been involved in European competition this season but were knocked out in the qualification stages.
Trivela managing director Ben Boycott said:
“I’m pleased with Trivela’s potential move into Denmark, with the proposed acquisition of Silkeborg IF.
“The management at Silkeborg has done an outstanding job running a competitive and profitable club these past many years, and it has been a pleasure to get to know them as we’ve sketched out this proposed transaction.
“The club is financially successful, debt free, and experiencing good sporting success of late as well.
“I have a great deal of respect for the club, the town, and the local culture, and am very hopeful to be invited in to be a part of it, if the Silkeborg Invest shareholders deem to approve us as owners.”
Writer’s View
This is good news for Walsall. Their owners are opening up new links for the club and investing in a top-flight team in Denmark gives the club ample opportunity for potential friendlies between the clubs. Silkeborg could potentially also send players on loan to Walsall in future, giving them the chance to bring Danish players to the West Midlands in a similar manner to how Brentford had links with FC Midtjylland in previous years.
