Wealdstone have made moves to bolster their defence with the permanent signing of Josh Grant.
The 26-year-old has been a free agent since the summer when he left Bristol Rovers and has swapped one Matt Taylor for another with his switch to The Vale.
League One Experience Arrives
Grant was a regular fixture at The Memorial Stadium since his arrival in July 2020, finally leaving Chelsea after loan moves away to Yeovil Town and Plymouth Argyle.
He played 36 times for The Gas last season, including 29 in League One as they finished 16th. He has regular game time with them in the third tier for the past three seasons and was also a contributing factor in the club’s promotion from League Two back in 2022.
In the announcement published on the club’s website, Wealdstone boss Taylor said:
“Josh is an extremely talented footballer who was a League One player this time last season – we are very lucky to have secured his signature.”
Wealdstone have struggled this season and have declined from their 16th place finish to be currently in the midst of a relegation battle. They are 22nd place and face Rochdale in their next National League match.
Writer’s View
This is a brilliant move for Wealdstone and really for any National League club. Josh Grant is a player that does deserve to still be playing EFL football so for a team like The Stones to sign him is a real coup. The club have struggled to defend, conceding 25 goals in 17 games but do have a better record than the sides around them. They are losing points by fine margins and if they can turn one point into three they will quickly rise up the table and can avoid relegation into the National League South.
