Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah is steadily progressing in his recovery from an injury that has kept him sidelined since August, raising hopes that he may soon be back in the squad.
The 29-year-old, who joined the Owls from West Brom in the summer, has only made a single appearance, featuring in a Carabao Cup victory over Grimsby Town before injury struck. Fans and management alike are keen to see the one-cap England international return to league action.
Chalobah Nears Return with Cautious Training Regimen
Owls manager Danny Röhl has set a cautious pathway for Chalobah’s return, opting to gradually increase the intensity of his training. The current international break has allowed the coaching team to manage his workload carefully, aiming to avoid any setbacks that could extend his time out of contention.
Last week, Chalobah began taking part in partial training sessions at Middlewood Road, participating in select drills as he progresses toward full team integration.
“It’s always the same process: you go through rehab, then they go onto the grass with the rehab coaches, and then they can be involved in some parts of training. He was involved in rondos but not part of the game, and this will be the next step,” Röhl shared with The Star. “Hopefully he is back maybe after the international break, the Wednesday or Thursday. That would be good. We will cross our fingers there is no setback, but so far it looks very good.”
Since his arrival at Sheffield Wednesday, Chalobah has been regarded as a player with valuable experience, having played at both Championship and Premier League levels. His anticipated return could add depth to Wednesday’s midfield options, offering Röhl a more seasoned presence in the squad. For now, however, Röhl is determined to ensure Chalobah’s recovery is managed meticulously to prevent any premature return that might jeopardise his long-term fitness.
With the international break providing a window to continue his recovery at a manageable pace, Chalobah’s involvement in Sheffield Wednesday’s squad appears likely for the upcoming clash with Cardiff City on 23 November, barring any setbacks. If all goes well, Röhl expects him to be gradually phased into regular match play, allowing him to build match fitness safely.
