Luton Town Boss Drops Exit Hint

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has admitted that he could be in the firing line after watching his side suffer a humiliating 5-1 defeat against Middlesbrough this afternoon.

The 41-year-old is considered a hero at Kenilworth Road after guiding the Hatters to the Premier League in 2023. Although their stay in the top tier was a short one, the Bedfordshire-based side earned plaudits from all quarters for their entertaining, attacking play.

Despite their relegation, they were considered one of the pre-season favourites to secure promotion having largely kept together the same squad from last season. However, they have endured a torrid time since returning to the Championship and find themselves in a battle to remain in the division.

Relegation Battle

Edwards has found himself under pressure in recent weeks, although that eased somewhat in midweek when they picked up a narrow 1-0 win over Cardiff City. It was a result which lifted them out of the bottom three, but they came crashing back down to earth with a bang at the Riverside this afternoon.

Michael Carrick’s team were dominant throughout the clash, with Delano Burgzorg and Finn Azaz both hitting braces and Emmanuel Latte Lath also getting in on the act.

“I’m Realistic” – Rob Edwards Admits He Could Be Sacked

Following the game, Edwards admitted that he could have taken charge of his last game. Via Luton Todayhe said:

“It’s not a good result and results haven’t been good enough. I’m realistic, whatever will be will be. I’m not in control of that stuff, I love this football club and whatever is best for the football club is the right thing.

“I and we have given everything for this football club. I’ve loved the two years, it’s been one hell of a ride and we’ve achieved things that probably no-one thought was possible. So, if that is it, then I and we can hold our heads high as we’ve given everything and if it’s not then we continue to fight.

“I don’t want to be a divisive figure here as it’s the supporters who are the most important people at any football club and they’re the ones that are making that noise and they’re the ones that let us know.”

Writer’s View

Nobody can deny the impact that Rob Edwards has had at Luton, but it does look as if his time at Kenilworth Road is over. It’s hard to see where they pick up points and with the squad they have, they really should be higher up the table. It’s possibly fair to say that a change needs to be made before they become well and truly entwined in the relegation battle.
