Stephen Clemence has said he would not be opposed to future free-agent moves at Barrow following the deal to bring in Charlie Kirk.
The former Crewe Alexandra winger moved to Holker Street last week, with his reveal the same day as The Bluebirds played out a 1-1 draw against Notts County. He is still yet to make his debut for the club but was named in his first squad in their last match against Bromley.
Future Dealings Possible
Clemence spoke to the North-West Evening Mail on if any further free-agent moves were on the cards.
“We are constantly looking (at players).
“If we can try to improve and help the squad, help the team, then obviously we are open to bringing more people in.
“But I can you tell you at the moment, there is nobody else imminent.”
League Two often sees free-agent signings throughout the season, with Bradford City recently picking up both Corry Evans and Paul Huntington in the midst of an injury crisis there. Bromley also recently signed ex-Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on a permanent deal.
Turned Down Previous Player
Discussing how the move to sign Kirk materialised, former Gillingham boss Clemence added:
“Obviously, I’ve seen Charlie in the past. I know he is very good technically.
“So we got him in, and we felt he looked fit enough and looked hungry enough to come and have a go with us, so we decided to take that option up.
“We also had somebody else in which we decided to not take the option on.”
Barrow welcome League Two compatriots Doncaster Rovers this weekend in the first round of the FA Cup, with The Bluebirds losing to Grant McCann’s side in the league in South Yorkshire.
Writer’s View
It would be foolish to rule out any new potential transfers which could make a team better. Charlie Kirk has proven himself across weeks of training with Stephen Clemence and should be geared up to make his debut for Barrow this weekend. Whilst he may not start every week, it will be crucial to have the depth to cover for Katia Kouyate and Elliot Newby who have been real shining lights in this team so far.
