Crystal Palace may bring Jesurun Rak-Sakyi back from his loan at Sheffield United as they struggle to find attacking options amid a challenging season.
Rak-Sakyi, who has made only ten senior appearances for Palace, boasts an impressive record with the club’s youth teams, tallying 32 goals and 16 assists over 57 games across the U18 and U21 squads. His talent has not gone unnoticed internationally either; he has scored once in five caps for England’s U20 team.
Despite the summer departure of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, Palace opted to loan Rak-Sakyi to Sheffield United, a Championship side, for more experience. In his 11 appearances so far this season, he has registered two goals and an assist—a solid output that has drawn attention from Palace, especially given their current lack of offensive firepower.
Palace’s Attack Struggles Drive Recall Speculation
The Eagles, managed by Oliver Glasner, currently find themselves at the bottom of the Premier League scoring charts, managing just six goals this season. No team in the league has produced fewer clear-cut scoring chances, with only 14 big opportunities created.
Former scout Mick Brown suggests Palace’s ongoing search for effective wingers fuels speculation around Rak-Sakyi’s return. The winger’s current role at Sheffield United is providing him with regular game time, something Palace may struggle to offer if he were to rejoin the squad.
“Crystal Palace have been monitoring him closely,” Brown shared with Football Insider. “He was sent to Sheffield United because he wasn’t going to be playing every week at Selhurst Park, and that’s still the case now. But Palace have had issues in his position, they’ve tried several players there and none of them have pulled up any trees so far. There’s been some consideration about whether they should recall him.”
Despite this consideration, Brown anticipates Rak-Sakyi will likely remain in Yorkshire for the remainder of the season. The recall clause, added to ensure flexibility in his loan arrangement, may offer Palace an option if their offensive woes deepen. However, his regular minutes in the Championship might outweigh a possible intermittent role in the Premier League.
Writer’s View
Palace’s challenges in front of goal make Rak-Sakyi’s recall a tempting option. Yet, given his development trajectory and the benefits of consistent playtime at Sheffield, the decision requires careful balancing. Glasner’s squad is crying out for an attacking spark, and while Rak-Sakyi has the talent to contribute, immediate solutions may be needed beyond a mid-season recall.
