Huddersfield Town defender Matty Pearson has declared that the Terriers remain unsatisfied despite a recent upturn in form, with aspirations set far above their current fifth-place standing in League One.
Following a string of three wins and a draw, capped by Saturday’s 2-0 win over Exeter City, Huddersfield has revived their push for promotion, now sitting just four points shy of the automatic spots and seven off the top of the table.
Consistency Lifts Terriers Back into Contention
Huddersfield’s recent success marks a strong recovery from a difficult spell earlier in the month, during which the team dropped as low as 15th after four consecutive losses. Cohesive performances have driven the improvement at home, where they have now clinched four straight victories across all competitions. Saturday’s result over Exeter saw Pearson score the opening goal, heading in from a corner in the 16th minute.
Speaking about his goal and the team’s performance, Pearson acknowledged their progress but emphasized the squad’s collective ambition to continue climbing the standings.
“I think we’ve needed this bounce back from a tough couple of weeks,” Pearson told BBC Radio Leeds. “But for me personally, I couldn’t be happier playing, scoring, and winning. It’s just the start – we want to be climbing the table even higher, and that’s the aim.”
The victory over Exeter was particularly satisfying, with the Grecians entering the game level on points with Huddersfield.
High Standards for the Road Ahead
While pleased with their current position, Pearson stressed that Huddersfield must guard against complacency. Exeter, a team often underestimated, was acknowledged by Pearson as a strong side with a solid defensive record. “They’re not a poor team,” he remarked, “people dismiss it because it’s Exeter, but they’ve got some good players. It’s a nice feeling to put it to bed at 2-0.”
Huddersfield’s head coach, Michael Duff, has also praised the team’s resilience but continues to challenge his squad, aiming to close the gap with the league’s top teams and sustain a promotion bid.
Writer’s View
Huddersfield’s resurgence is promising, and Pearson’s comments highlight a squad eager to maximize its potential. As momentum builds, maintaining this level of intensity will be crucial to staying in the promotion race. With ambition driving the squad, the Terriers look poised to capitalize on their upward trajectory if they can avoid the pitfalls that impacted their earlier form.
