Barrow AFC have announced the signing of former Charlton and Blackpool winger Charlie Kirk, following his departure from Crewe Alexandra.
Kirk, 26, has been a free agent since the summer and has now secured a deal with Barrow until the end of the season, with the option to extend for a further 12 months.
The move comes after Kirk parted ways with Crewe Alexandra at the end of last season when the club chose not to renew his contract. Since then, the former Charlton Athletic and Blackpool loanee had been weighing up his options before eventually opting for Barrow after a successful trial.
Kirk Excited for New Challenge
Speaking about his move to Barrow, Kirk expressed his enthusiasm for the new opportunity. He told the club’s website:
“It feels good to be here. I’ve been training here for the past week to ten days, and I’ve got to know the lads really well. I’m buzzing to get going now. The past couple of weeks have been really good. The lads have been top class; I’ve really enjoyed being back training as I’ve not done a lot for the past three or four months, so to get back into a club, with a club like this, is everything, and I’m very happy.”
Kirk’s arrival will bolster Barrow’s attacking options as they aim to maintain their push for promotion from League Two, where they currently sit in 8th place under manager Stephen Clemence.
A Career with Crewe Roots
A product of Crewe Alexandra’s youth system, Kirk spent the majority of his early career with the club. He made his first-team debut in 2016 and went on to play over 200 games, scoring 32 goals for the Railwaymen. In 2021, he moved to Charlton Athletic but struggled to make a significant impact and was later loaned to Blackpool and Burton Albion.
Last season, Kirk re-joined Crewe for the latter half of the campaign, helping them reach the play-off final, where they narrowly lost to Crawley Town at Wembley. Despite his efforts, Kirk was released after the conclusion of the season.
