Northampton Town salvaged a dramatic point with a stoppage-time equaliser against Stockport County in a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Edgeley Park, keeping their League One promotion ambitions alive.
The Cobblers snatched the late equaliser through Tyler Magloire’s header, cancelling out Louie Barry’s late penalty for Stockport, in a game that looked set for a home victory.
Magloire Strikes Late After Stockport’s Dominance
Stockport had appeared to secure all three points in the 87th minute when Louie Barry calmly converted from the penalty spot, following a foul by Northampton’s Cameron McGeehan on Kyle Wootton inside the box. It marked Barry’s seventh goal of the season, sending the home fans into celebration as they neared what seemed a crucial victory in their promotion chase.
The hosts had dominated much of the match, controlling possession and creating the majority of chances. Early in the first half, Stockport came close to breaking the deadlock when Jayden Fevrier’s long-range strike clipped the top of the crossbar. As the game progressed, Fevrier, Barry, and Odin Bailey all tested Northampton’s defence with a string of attempts, but the Cobblers held firm.
It wasn’t until the second half that Northampton began to pose a real threat. Substitute Tyler Roberts came agonisingly close to giving the visitors a surprise lead, striking the post around the hour mark. However, it was Stockport who struck first, thanks to Barry’s penalty.
But Northampton refused to give up, and their perseverance paid off deep into stoppage time. A well-delivered free-kick from Jack Baldwin found Magloire, whose powerful header found the back of the net, securing an unlikely point for the visitors.
Stockport dominated possession with 66.5% of the ball compared to Northampton’s 33.5%. They had 17 shots to Northampton’s seven, but both sides managed three shots on target. Stockport also led in corners, with six to Northampton’s one, but despite their dominance, they could not secure the win.

Writer’s View
This result will feel like a missed opportunity for Stockport, who controlled the game but lacked the clinical finishing to close it out. Northampton, on the other hand, will take heart from their resilience, with Magloire’s late header potentially injecting momentum into their campaign. Stockport’s promotion hopes will likely depend on turning dominance into more consistent victories.
