AFC Wimbledon extended their flawless home form with a commanding 3-0 victory over struggling Morecambe in League Two.
Goals from James Tilley, Omar Bugiel, and Matty Stevens sealed the win, moving the Dons to within striking distance of the play-off places, with three games in hand over many of their rivals.
Second Half Breakthrough
Despite a dominant start, Wimbledon found it tough to break down a resilient Morecambe side, who came into the match rooted at the bottom of the table. The home side probed for an opener but struggled to carve out clear opportunities in the first half. However, James Tilley gave Morecambe an early warning when he forced a smart save from goalkeeper Stuart Moore just before the break.
Seven minutes into the second half, Tilley finally made the breakthrough. After a surging run from his own half, he unleashed a superb finish that left Moore with no chance, giving Wimbledon the lead they had been threatening.
Wimbledon Take Control
Once ahead, the Dons never looked back. Just after the hour mark, Omar Bugiel doubled the advantage. A pinpoint cross from Callum Maycock found Bugiel in space, and the forward made no mistake, turning the ball home to put Wimbledon firmly in control.
Four minutes later, Wimbledon sealed the points with a third goal. Matty Stevens, who had been a constant threat throughout the game, slotted home after being expertly set up by Josh Neufville, completing a comprehensive performance from the home side.
The Wombles dominated Morecambe in every aspect of their 3-0 victory, controlling 63% of possession and firing 19 shots compared to just four from the visitors. Wimbledon’s attacking pressure was relentless, with nine shots on target and 30 touches in Morecambe’s box, showcasing their control over the match. Morecambe’s defence, and particularly their goalkeeper Stuart Moore, worked hard to limit the damage with five saves, but they couldn’t contain Wimbledon’s forwards.
The win keeps AFC Wimbledon’s home record intact and moves them closer to the play-off places as they continue their push for promotion.
