Former Cardiff City Boss Turns Down Immediate Job Offer

Former Cardiff City manager, Erol Bulut, has been offered a managerial role at Turkish Super Lig side, Adana Demirspor, just weeks after his dismissal from the Welsh club.

The unexpected job offer has raised eyebrows, particularly given the timing of Bulut’s sacking and Demirspor’s ongoing struggles in the Turkish league.

A Quick Return for Bulut?

Bulut’s brief stint at Cardiff City ended abruptly last month after just six games into the season. The team managed only one point and scored a single goal during that period, marking one of the club’s worst starts in nearly 100 years. Despite this, Bulut’s reputation appears to remain intact, particularly in his home country of Turkey, where the offer from Demirspor reportedly awaits.

The Turkish club recently parted ways with their manager, Michael Valkanis, following a string of disappointing results. Adana Demirspor currently sit at the bottom of the Super Lig table, making the position a challenging but intriguing opportunity for Bulut. It is believed that Demirspor are keen to bring in an experienced hand to guide them out of relegation danger.

Cardiff’s Struggles Under Bulut

Erol Bulut joined Cardiff City with hopes of stabilising the club after a turbulent few years in the Championship. Last season, he led Cardiff to a 12th-place finish, the club’s best in four seasons. However, the 2023-24 campaign quickly spiralled into disaster for the 49-year-old manager. Cardiff’s dismal run, which included a painful defeat to Leeds United, saw Bulut lose his position, despite his relatively short tenure.

While Cardiff’s performances under Bulut were largely underwhelming, his track record in previous roles—including success in Turkish football—has made him an attractive prospect for clubs back home.

Adana Demirspor are reportedly also considering other candidates if Bulut declines, with former Premier League bosses Valerien Ismael and Walter Mazzarri mentioned as alternatives.

Writer’s View

Erol Bulut’s rapid return to managerial consideration highlights the often unpredictable nature of football. While his time at Cardiff was short-lived and unsuccessful, his standing in Turkey remains strong. Should he accept the Demirspor role, it could provide the perfect opportunity for Bulut to rebuild his reputation. However, taking charge of a club in crisis always presents risks.
