Birmingham City picked up a 3-1 victory over Lincoln City in League One, overcoming a first-minute goal to solidify their position at the top of the table.
The match saw an early surprise for the pace setters, and in the end, the two-goal cushion flattered them somewhat, with the home side having more shots then their expensively-assembled visitors.
Lincoln Strike Early, but Birmingham Respond
The Imps made an electrifying start, taking the lead just moments after kickoff. Tom Hamer’s trademark long throw-in caused chaos in the Birmingham box, allowing Bailey Cadamarteri to pounce and smash home, giving the home side a dream start. However, the goal seemed to spark Birmingham into life rather than unsettle them.
The Blues quickly regrouped, taking control of possession. Their efforts were rewarded in the 15th minute when Keshi Anderson brought the visitors level. Anderson finished off a fluid team move, slotting the ball past Lincoln goalkeeper George Wickens, restoring parity and putting Birmingham in the driver’s seat.
Alfie May nearly put Birmingham ahead before the break, firing narrowly wide and then rattling the post with a powerful effort. Despite the near misses, the visitors went into halftime with momentum on their side.
Blues Steal Second Half
Birmingham’s possession dominance continued after the interval, and it wasn’t long before they took the lead. In the 52nd minute, Willum Willumsson unleashed a superb strike from outside the box, finding the back of the net to make it 2-1. The goal should have given Birmingham full control, but instead, the home side fluffed their big chance to get back into the game.
The Imps had a golden opportunity to equalise when Conor McGrandles was fouled in the box, earning a penalty. Reeco Hackett stepped up for his first touch after coming on as a sub, but Birmingham goalkeeper Ryan Allsop was equal to the task. Allsop, who saved a penalty on his debut for Lincoln as a loan player in 2018, dived to his right to save the spot-kick and keep his side in front.
With Lincoln’s hopes fading, Birmingham struck the final blow. Keshi Anderson doubled his tally for the night, calmly slotting home with just over 10 minutes remaining, sealing the 3-1 victory and ensuring Birmingham’s return to winning ways.
The win keeps Birmingham at the top of League One, with their ability to bounce back from adversity proving crucial in their pursuit of promotion.
The reporter should take off his Lincoln city glasses, what a rubbish report, apart from the 1st minute lucky goal, Lincoln were never in the match, even the penalty was lucky, the referee should go to Specsavers!!! Stop being jealous about Birmingham,
