Newport County‘s Cameron Evans believes his side can compete against anyone at home ahead of their game against Chesterfield.
The Exiles have had a solid start to this season, with their home form being a key factor putting them into 13th place ahead of Friday night’s fixture. They have won four times and lost once so far at Rodney Parade, ranking them fifth across League Two in terms of points scored at home.
“We Fancy Ourselves Against Anyone”
Speaking to the club’s official media ahead of the Spirites visiting South Wales, the former Swansea City academy graduate said:
“Chesterfield will be a tough opposition, but we fancy ourselves against anyone at home.
“Since the start of the season we’ve really tried to make Rodney Parade a fortress and we want to continue that on Friday.
“When we play at home it’s a different feeling, the fans are amazing and are always the 12th man that push us on each game.
“We’ll just keep doing what we have been doing at home and stick to our processes, and hopefully we can get the three points.
“We’ll go into the game with an element of confidence from our recent home form, but we know it will be tough.”
A win for either side would put them on the cusp of the play-off places, and should the visitors take the spoils they would break into 7th place ahead of this weekend’s action.
Paul Cook’s side have fared strongly since returning to the Football League this season and are joint top scorers in League Two, tied with Notts County and Walsall.

Newport County can rightly be confident heading into this game having one of the best home records in the fourth tier. They have taken down some very competitive sides so far, including Doncaster Rovers in a terrific 3-1 victory. Chesterfield do come into this unbeaten in their last five, but four of those were draws. This should be one of the standout fixtures in the league, with it’s Friday night billing only adding to the allure of this contest.
