Stoke City Boosted By Return Of £1.2 Million Man

Stoke City midfielder Lynden Gooch is expected to return from injury by late November, providing a timely boost for the Potters as they push forward in the Championship.

Gooch, who is rated at £1.2 million by Transfermarkt, has been absent from the team since mid-September and is reportedly working hard towards regaining match fitness, according to the Stoke Sentinel.

The 28-year-old American signed for Stoke City in September 2023 and has since been a key player under multiple managers. Gooch has featured 37 times for the club across all competitions, 30 of those appearances coming this season, where he has contributed with two goals. His versatility, playing both as a winger and wing-back, has made him a valuable asset for the squad.

Injury Progress and Team Update

According to the latest updates, Gooch is aiming to be back on the field towards the end of November. His absence has been felt by manager Narcis Pelach, who has had to navigate a series of challenging fixtures without the American. Pelach’s side, who recently drew 0-0 against Swansea City before the international break, will face Norwich City this weekend, where the manager will once again have to make do without Gooch.

Gooch’s return will not only add depth to the team but also bring a wealth of experience to the dressing room. The California-born player, who has earned four international caps for the United States, moved to England in 2012 and rose through the ranks at Sunderland. During his time at the Wearside club, he made 246 appearances and scored 25 goals, becoming a fan favourite before moving to Stoke.

Stoke City’s recent form under Pelach has seen them collect four points since he took over following Steven Schumacher’s departure. However, the Potters will be eager to have Gooch back in the lineup, as they look to climb the Championship table and improve their attacking options.

Writer’s View

Gooch’s impending return is good news for Stoke City. His ability to play multiple positions gives Pelach flexibility in tactics, and his experience in both domestic and international football makes him a leader on the pitch. While the team has coped reasonably well in his absence, his comeback could add the quality needed for a stronger push as the season progresses. Stoke’s mid-table position might improve significantly with his presence in the squad.
