Norwich City Man Opens Up On Transfer Speculation

Kenny McLean has addressed speculation linking him with a move to Rangers, confirming his future lies with Norwich City.

He has been a crucial player for the Canaries since 2018, with the new season promising under manager Johannes Hoff Thorup. Despite being linked with a return to Scotland, McLean is fully focused on leading Norwich back to the Premier League.

McLean’s Norwich Journey

Kenny McLean, now 32, has been a mainstay at Norwich City, having joined the club in 2018. The Scottish international has seen the highs and lows with the Canaries, including promotions and relegations between the Premier League and Championship. Rumours surfaced over the summer of a potential move back to Scotland, with Rangers reportedly interested in his services. However, McLean has made it clear that his focus remains in East Anglia.

Speaking about the links to Rangers, McLean said, “Not too much that needed to be spoken about, to be honest. The manager was in the door for a couple of weeks and had a conversation with him. He’d made it quite clear publicly that he wanted young players, and I didn’t quite fit that bracket!”

McLean’s commitment to Norwich has never wavered, even with a new manager at the helm. “When I spoke to him, he knew he needed some experience about the place, and I’ve been there a long time. He told me I was still a big part of the plan. So for me, that was me secure and getting my head down at Norwich and not really focusing on elsewhere.”

Thriving Under New Management

McLean’s influence in the squad remains strong, despite a transitional period with a new manager. Johannes Hoff Thorup took charge of the team in the summer, and McLean has been pivotal in helping Norwich adapt to a new style of play. Initially, there were some teething problems as the squad adjusted, but McLean believes they are on the right track.

“We had a slow start with the new manager. We were still adapting to a lot of stuff that he wanted us to do. The last few games have been really good actually. We’re in a good place and I think it’s set up for a good season for us.”

This season promises excitement for Norwich, with McLean at the heart of the team’s resurgence. “The change from last season, getting the fans on side for us personally, has been brilliant. They’re buying into what the manager is doing. Personally, back at the club, things are looking pretty good, and we’ve got a good chance of having a successful season.”

Ambitions for Promotion

Norwich City has always aimed for promotion back to the Premier League, and McLean believes the club is moving in the right direction to achieve that goal. With new owners in place and the backing of an energised fanbase, Norwich is well-positioned to challenge for promotion.

“Even at the young age of 32, I’m feeling good. We’re playing good stuff, the way the manager wants to play. That’s what everybody wants to be involved in. So if there’s a chance of success there, we’re going to do everything to achieve it. As I say, we’re improving all the time and long may that continue.”

McLean also highlighted the new ownership’s impact, stating, “We’ve got new owners and a new manager who’s been a breath of fresh air. As I say, everybody’s buying into his ideas. I think for the club, it’s a really exciting time for the next few years.”

Writer’s View

Kenny McLean’s decision to stay with Norwich is a significant boost for the club. His experience and ability to adapt under new management are critical as the Canaries aim for a return to the Premier League. McLean’s leadership, both on and off the pitch, will be invaluable, particularly as Norwich continues to rebuild under Johannes Hoff Thorup.

For Norwich fans, McLean’s commitment sends a strong message that the club is in good hands. His belief in the new management and ownership reflects a positive future for the Canaries. With McLean anchoring the midfield, Norwich has every chance of achieving success this season and making a strong push for promotion.
