Plymouth Argyle Loanee Sidelined Through Injury

Plymouth Argyle attacker Muhamed Tijani is set to be out until the New Year with injury, according to Pilgrims manager Wayne Rooney.

The 24-year-old sustained a torn hamstring in the club’s midweek defeat to high-flying Burnley, with the Devon side losing 1-0 at Turf Moor. Despite the loss it was a fairly encouraging performance from Argyle, though Tijani’s injury will put a dampener on the match for Rooney’s side.

Speaking to Plymouth Live, the 38-year-old said “Tijani picked up a quite serious one which will probably see him out until the New Year.

“We are still waiting for full details on that. I’m really disappointed for him because I felt he came on [against Luton] and did well. Once I have more clear information I can tell you on that.”

With Tijani out for an extended period, it remains to be seen what his future looks like at Home Park. His loan from Czech side Slavia Prague runs until the end of the season but he may return to his parent club temporarily for treatment, or he could remain in the South West to recover.

The injury continues a frustrating spell in the second tier for Tijani, who struggled for game time at the start of his loan. He has, however, had more minutes recently, racking up three appearances in green so far. Having recorded an assist against Luton Town last week it was hoped he was just hitting form, but this injury is another setback.

Plymouth now find themselves with one less attacking option, having hit a period of inconsistency in the Championship. Ryan Hardie and Michael Obafemi are the main options up front but depth is an issue, so Plymouth may suffer more than most would for this injury.

This is a massive blow for Plymouth. Tijani has shown signs of promise and looked to be hitting form, but this injury has stopped him in his tracks. With very little options to replace him, Plymouth may have to look to a free agent to fill the gap, or just hope other players stay fit.  Despite inconsistent form, things are looking up at Home Park, and this is a setback they desperately didn’t need to happen.
